	Now we have 174 registered gardens, and 101 of them are &#39;active&#39;, ie they have registered sightings. There have been 2173 sightings of 276 species. Thats an average of over 21 species per garden. What proportion of all sightable species in these 101 gardens have been sighted?&nbsp;

	Having finally turned 40 I can now relax and stop worrying. It is lent and so having digested the pancakes I am giving up worrying for 40 days and 40 nights. Will I survive? I don&#39;t know. Am I worried. Oh no, certainly not!

	Gaiaveda has a pulse. I had worried that it might flounder and I would have to return to tried and tested ways of being. Problem with that would be, that they were tried and tested and didn&#39;t work all that well. So I am pleased that we are still moving forward. 	Urban Permaculture Course, &#39;Farming the City Block&#39;

	Today we began the process of auditing the City Block bounded by Hurst St: Bullingdon Rd: St Mary&#39;s Rd: Leopold St. We did St Marys Rd and haqd good responce, getting 10 forms filled out on the dorr and delivering dozens more, many into their hands with time for a brief explanation of our project. The depth of information is rich alreadt and tomorrow we anticipate makingour way round the rest of the block.&nbsp;

	We joined the Permaculture Association this year after I attended the London Permaculture Festival in Camden. There I met Andy Goldring and we talked about Gaiaveda and the ecocentrus project. I specifically talked about the idea of Farming the City Block and Andy encourged me to join the association.&nbsp;

	Since joining we have had useful news about permaculture and been invited to give a workshop at the AGM.

	Over the years I have been very interested in studying the city block as a unity of urban ecology. It was one of the reasons for the development of ecocentrus, which in many ways was concieved over dinner by Ali and I in a flat on the edge of Hampstead Heath. We mused about the apparent lack of community in what was overwise a beautiful area and how if we could use the internet to facilitate the establishemtn of real villiage community in the city we would be doing good work. 	It has been a rich and full filling summer, with many delights and quite a few struggles. . Today we jumped a neighbours fence to lighten the heavy load on a plum tree and marvelled at the bountuful early apple harvest.&nbsp;

	We visited Chateau Miromesnil on our way back from the Dordogne. They have the most fabolous kitchen garden. 	Most of you will know that bee populations have been taking a hit in recent years. Collonies of honey bees across europe and the US have been collapsing. There is debate around the causes which include pests and disease and certain pesticides. But its not only honey bees whcih we need to worry about, Bumble Bees are also in danger with 2 species becoming natioanlly extinct in the last 70 years. I would like to commend a website for the Bumblebee Conservation Trust which has good advice on planting.

	Harlequin Ladybirds are recent arrivals on these shores. Originally from Asia, they were introduced to the USA to act as a biological pest control, but they got out of control themselves and began to feast on many beneficial insects. They were sighted in th UK in 2004 and have been claiming territiory ever since. They have multiple forms and predate other species of ladybird.&nbsp;

	Since our &#39;soft launch&#39; on Sunday on &nbsp;Oxford Radio, we have had 22 new gardens added. This is significant as the other 111 gardens we left over from ecocentrus mk1. This new uptake is generating interest, as source of new sightings and many new photos.&nbsp;

	We have just added charts to the sightings reports of any given species. The charts show environmental properties of the gardens the selected species have been sighted within, for example how many of the gardens hedgehogs were sighted within have hedges.

	There are still a few charts missing and we will be adding them shortly.
